UVM Men's Basketball players Everett Duncan & Dylan Sinnickson, along with assistant coach Hamlet Tibbs, came to read to our Kindergarten students on Wednesday, October 21st.

Community Request:

  • Halloween is coming and your Waterbury Village neighbors are excited for another great year! Please help by dropping your candy donations off at the candy drop boxes at TBPS and CBMS offices from Monday, 10/19- Friday, 10/30!
  • The candy will be distributed to Randall and Elm Streets and other homes in high traffic spots! Thanks for your help!
Student Council:

All 3rd and 4th grade students are encouraged to apply by completing the Self Nomination Form which does require a parent signature.  Forms are due back to classroom teachers by October 30th.  Forms submitted after this date will not be considered and hard copies can be provided by your child’s teacher.

Activities for Students:
Save the Stamps:
  • Shaws Supermarket is running their Cuisinart Stamp Saver program again, and this time you can earn points for cutting boards, flatware, and kitchen utensils.  
  • If you do not use their stamps, please consider dropping them off at the school office.  The school is trying to stock a schoolwide cooking cart for in-class cooking lessons.  We could use all the stamps we can get!!!
Box Tops for Education:

Preschool News & Resources:
  • A new statewide phone line to support families with young children was announced by the United Ways of Vermont. Parents and caregivers can now dial 2-1-1 to be connected with trained Help Me Grow child development specialists who can answer questions about children’s behavior and development and connect families to resources and services in their community.
  • The project was funded by the Vermont Early Learning Challenge Grant – a federal grant that supports collaborative systems reform in early childhood across the Agency of Human Services, the Agency of Education, and Building Bright Futures.

River of Light Lantern Parade

  • Get ready for the 6th annual River of Light Lantern Parade! There will be many announcements in the coming weeks asking for volunteers for help with lantern making during art classes starting in late October. Keep an eye out for those.
  • Here is information about the community workshops:
    • Free Community Lantern-Making Workshops for Waterbury's River of Light Lantern Parade. We have a number of spaces left for our Community Lantern-workshop Program for the 6th annual River of Light, Waterbury's Community Lantern Parade- connecting communities through art, music and celebration. This year’s workshops will be taking place at:
      • Waterbury: Sat. Nov. 7th 2015 at Thatcher Brook Primary School, Waterbury VT. Time:10am -3pm (inc. 1hr lunch-break)
      • Stowe: Sat. Nov.14th 2015 at Helen Day Art Center, Stowe, VT Time: 10am-3pm (inc. 1hr lunch-break)
      • Bolton: Sat. Nov. 21st 2015 at Smilie Memorial School, 2712 Theodore Roosevelt Hwy (Route 2), Bolton, VT Time: 10am-3pm (inc. 1hr lunch-break)
  • Please note that for the above sessions:
    • Workshops are free to attend.
    • All tools and materials will be provided. If you have a pair of hand-held
pruning shears, please bring them along, it will be useful to have a 
pair of your own.
    • Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. This 
activity is not suitable for children under 6.
    • There will be a limit of 20 participants.
    • Donations will be welcome.
  • Special 2-Day Intensive Artists' Lantern Workshop: October 24-25th, 2015. Thatcher Brook Primary School, Waterbury VT. Time: 10am - 4pm on both days.

Tuesday, October 6, 2015 is Picture Day for PreK, Kindergarten, and grades 3 & 4.
Tuesday evening from 6:00-7:00 is Open House for grades 1 & 2. When you are here for Open House please take part in the survey in the front hall outside the office.

Wednesday, October 7, 2015 is Picture Day for PreK, and grades 1 & 2.
Third and fourth graders are going on the iMove Hiking Experience and will gone from 9:00-2:00. Permission slips went home last week and should be returned no later then tomorrow, Tuesday, morning.
Kindergarten is walking to the Waterbury Fire Station for a tour from 9:30-10:15 on Wednesday.

From the PTO: 
PTO is recruiting for volunteers for two water tables on Perry Hill Road for THIS Sunday's Leaf Peeper's Half Marathon! Time commitment is from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Central Vermont
Runner's Club donates money to the PTO that goes directly to fund children's athletic events including cross country skiing and Girls on The Run.
