Summer News and Updates

Dear TBPS Families,

We hope that you have been enjoying the summer and the beautiful weather we’ve been having!  With the start of a new school year fast approaching, we wanted to reach out and update you on some new information related to the 2014-15 school year.

Our usual summer activities have been underway and the building is abuzz with the sounds of our custodians cleaning, waxing and mowing.  Students have been in and out throughout the summer enjoying our many summer programs and camps.  Teachers and staff have been attending professional development opportunities while also spending time with family and friends.

Two of the major changes that will be implemented this year are related to our building access and the road construction projects that will be occurring in Waterbury.  As many of you already know, the town is undertaking some major road, sidewalk and bridge construction that will most definitely impact the overall traffic flow in Waterbury as well as our arrival and dismissal times.  In an effort to remain consistent with our procedures and maintain safety for our students, we are asking that all parents who drop off or pick up in the circle abide by the following rules:
  • Please have your child exit and enter your vehicle on the curb side when picking up and dropping off.
  • Please do not park in the drop off circle or leave your vehicle running in the circle.
  • If you are escorting your child into the building, we ask that you park in the back parking lot (accessible via High Street) and enter from this side of the building, so as not to disrupt the flow in the circle.

One of the many building projects we have undertaken this summer has been installing a security system at both main entrances of the building.  The primary purpose in implementing this system is the safety of our students and staff.  This security system will allow us to secure the school during school hours while also utilizing a camera and buzzer system to continue to allow access to parents and others as needed.  Both main entrances will remain unlocked during arrival and dismissal times as they have been in the past.  The new system will allow our office staff to see, via camera, who is at the door and an intercom system will allow for communication.  The office will be able to unlock the door from their location to allow visitors into the building.

We look forward to seeing each of you as we embark on another year together here at TBPS!  Our first day of school is Tuesday, August 26th and some additional dates of note are listed below:
