November News

It is hard to believe that our first trimester is coming to a close.  The month of November promises to be a busy one! The Vermont Symphony Orchestra is coming this Friday morning, 11/8 and will do two performances, one at 9:10a.m. and one at 10:10a.m. We welcome parents to join us for our Thanksgiving lunch in the cafeteria on Thursday, November 14th. Please call the office to RSVP if you plan to attend. Report cards will be coming home on November 19th and parent conferences will be scheduled during that same week and into the week of Thanksgiving.  Our Tuesday NEST groups are in full swing and it has been great to see how excited the students are for these special groups with different adults and students from all grades.   We have an All School Share scheduled for Friday, November 22nd at 1:45p.m. which promises to be a treat for all.  Students have been creating  lanterns for the annual Lantern Parade during art classes in preparation for this special event which will take place on Saturday, December 7th at 5:00p.m. in downtown Waterbury.

Red Sox Nation

Friday, October 18, 2013
It's Support the Sox Day today at TBPS! Many students and staff are sporting their Red Sox apparel. "Non-believers" are supporting their favorite team or sport in a building-wide sea of jersies, t-shirts, and hats. The craziest sight of all is the multitude of beards, of all shapes, sizes, and colors, adorning the chins of TBPSers big and small. It's amazing how quickly facial hair grows when you want to have some fun!!
We had the best of intentions when we started this blog, thinking we were going to blog every week and share our thoughts, insights, and profound declarations - HA!! Needless to say, it has been a challenge to keep up with this on a regular basis. The beginning of the school year in an elementary school is a very busy time and even more so when you are the new kids on the block as administrators. We found that other more student-centered activities took precedence over blogging, as it should be.  We wrapped up NECAP testing this week and had an exciting All School Share this afternoon. Last night our kindergarteners and their families came out for Kindergarten Math Night and based on the turn out and excitement it was surely a success.
Moving forward we are going to do our best to blog...when we can!

Week 2 Update

Howdy!
We have almost completed week 2!  Last Friday we had our first All School Share in the gym.  Students practiced greeting each other, reviewed our school codes and even got a visit from our school mascot, Thatcher the Eagle!  Our resident therapy dog, Cooper, was excited to meet students and has been a huge hit so far with both kids and adults.  We are excited for the back to school ice cream social happening tonight at 6:30 on the TBPS playground!  This has become an annual event hosted by our PTO and is sure to be another great opportunity for us to meet parents and kids.  We continue to visit classrooms, joining in during morning meetings and other times throughout the day which has helped us to learn the layout of the building as well as the names of the 400 students who attend TBPS.  Our preschoolers officially arrived this week and have had a successful transition into the new school year.  Next week will be our first 5 day week!

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday! It has been an energy filled week beginning with staff in-service on Monday and Tuesday. Monday morning at 7:50 the TBPS staff filled the library with energy and enthusiasm ready to start the 2013-14 school year. Acknowledging that change can be difficult, we all came together to begin our work for the benefit of the 400 children headed our way on Wednesday, August 28th.

Our new school nurse, accompanied by our music teacher, reminded staff about bloodborne pathogens through the ABC song and it put a smile on everyone’s face. Periodic door prizes energized the in-service agenda. The coveted prize of the morning was the plunger won by one of our interventionists. It may be a prize that gets “re-gifted” sometime in the future!! At the end of the day on Tuesday the staff was inspired to BE AWESOME by “Kid President” Robby Novak and his YouTube “ pep talk.”

Wednesday morning brought almost 400 students to our front doors with smiles on their faces and a willingness to get back to the learning at hand. As always in VT, the first couple of days have been the most humid of the summer leaving us all a little wilted by the end of the day. Luckily it’s a three day week for students with four days next week as we begin to wean them back in after summer vacation.

We wrapped up our first week of school with an All School Share this afternoon. Co-Principals Denise Goodnow and Stephanie Hudak introduced themselves to all the students who filled the gym. Students practiced greeting one another in a respectful manner which we will continue to reinforce throughout the building during the day. Cooper, our school’s therapy dog in-training, was introduced to the TBPS school community and received a joyous welcome.

It has been an AWESOME week and we’re all excited about the 2013-14 school year.

Less than 2 weeks!

School begins in less than 2 weeks!  We are getting ready for students to come back and have been busy with all of the final preparations that happen before we officially start back up.  Yesterday we had the pleasure of meeting many of Ms. Snyder's students and parents during their class gathering out on the playground.  We are looking forward to seeing all students on August 28th and are excited about the year ahead.

Happy August!

Happy August to the TBPS community! This building continues to be abuzz with activity as we get closer to the first day of school on August 28th. Preschool students should have received a letter by now explaining the orientations that have been scheduled for August 28th & 29th. If you have any questions about the beginning of the year for preschool don't hesitate to ask.
All students in grades K-4 have a full day of school beginning Wednesday, August 28th. We are looking forward to greeting the buses and meeting everyone on the first day of school.
Enjoy the rest of your summer vacation!

Hello!

Hello!
We're the new administrative team at Thatcher Brook Primary School and we wanted to say hello! Our work here at TBPS began on July 1 and we're very excited to be here. This building has been buzzing with activity all summer long and it has been fun to meet staff and students as they pop into the office to say hello. It helps us put names with all the faces we will be working with during the 2013-14 school year.
Don't hesitate to stop in and say hello between now and the end of the summer. We're looking forward to a great 2013-14 school year here at TBPS.
